First, go around your house, basement, attic or garage and select a few "unwanted" items that you would like to sell. These items should have a minimum sell price of atleast $5 dollars.<br /><br />Separate these items into small groups or categories. If you don't have a scale to weight them, go to your local office supply store and pick yourelf up one. A range of up to 50 lbs. will due just fine.<br /><br />If you don't have any shipping materials, go to the post office and pick up their rate card and some shipping supplies. Did you know that the U.S. Post Office will give you FREE shipping supplies. <a href="http://shop.usps.com">Click Here to order yours!</a><br /><br />Now that you have your items, rate card and shipping materials the second step is to be sure you have a table and some good lighting to take pictures of your items. <br /><br />You do have a digital camera don't you?<br /><br />If not, see if you can borrow one from a family member of friend (tell them you'll give them a kickback from your profits for letting you use it) and use theirs to take the initial pictures until you save up the money to buy your own.<br /><br />Before you take pictures though, you need to learn the right way to take GOOD pictures of your items. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. We will talk about this in Part 2 of this topic. This is your 'market research' into how eBay works.<br /><br />As you watch ebay auctions, keep track of how you are treated by these other sellers. This will give you an inside track on how to setup your customer service once you start selling your own items. Check out the hot auctions on eBay also, and see what happens. Keep good notes as they will come in handy later.<br /><br />eBay, like any other business, you have to determine what people want to buy before you can become a successful seller yourself. As you do your research, see what items are <a href="pages.ebay.com/sellercentral/whatshot.html">hot sellers</a>. I would strongly suggest going through eBay University, as this is the next step in the process.<br /><br />Before making that leap to becoming an eBay seller - read all the online help that ebay offers you on their site (hey, it's FREE!). The largest shopping site in the whole world. On eBay you can list an item for a low, low price of .25 cents or if you really want to grab some attention - purchase a front page link for only $39.95 (can you do that on Yahoo!, MSN or any other large site?).<br /><br />I don't think so.<br /><br />You see, in order to start any business you must find a hungry market. eBay has hundreds of categories ranging from antiques to automobiles, where millions of people are hungry buyers. They are looking for items that they want - and they are willing to pay for them.<br /><br />How do you find these hungry buyers?<br /><br />We'll get into that the next post, so keep an eye out for it.<br /><br /><strong>Action Step:</strong> Go visit eBay and look around as a buyer.
